VIDEO: Ricketts proclaims Sunday, Day of Prayer
Nebraska's Governor encourages people to engage in charitable acts and reflect on 2020 this weekend.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — On Friday, Governor Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation, making Sunday, Dec 20 a Day of Prayer, focused on remembering the more than 1,400 Nebraskans lost to the pandemic.
Gov. Ricketts said it will be “a Day of Prayer for relief in the pandemic, but also the strength to endure, and encourage people- whatever faith tradition they choose- to join us in prayer for the end of this pandemic.”
In fact, the First Lady, Suzanne Shore, said the next three days will be designated as a weekend of remembrance and honor so “all of Nebraska can recognize and commemorate those who we have lost during this year to COVID.”
“What we want to do is remember that many families are severely impacted,” commented Gov. Ricketts. “Many families are going to be experiencing the sorrow of not having their loved ones at the holidays with them; and we want to grieve with them for their loss.”
In tandem with the proclamation, the State launched a new website to act as a virtual memorial wall for those we’ve lost during the pandemic.
“We invite anyone willing to share their loved one’s stories to participate,” said the First Lady. “These memorials help us all remember, celebrate, and heal. They can include photos, stories, poems, pictures of artwork created in honor of someone, they can even link to videos and songs.”
