Volunteer firefighters battle garage fire in Kearney

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Volunteer firefighters extinguished flames at a Kearney home on Monday.

The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department was sent to the home near 2nd Avenue and West 44th Street around 11:20 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they saw black smoke and flames coming from the garage.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, containing most of the damage to the garage and attic, officials said.

But the home had an “extensive amount” of smoke damage.  The amount of damage is unknown.

No one was injured in the fire, which officials think was caused by a malfunctioning electrical appliance in the garage.

The Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Office is helping KVFD in the investigation.
