Volunteers clean up Lincoln’s Oak Lake Park after July Fourth festivities
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Fourth of July has come and gone, which means it’s time to clean up the mess.
At Oak Lake Park, around 30 volunteers came to clean up on Wednesday after Uncle Sam Jam and the holiday.
“It’s a great opportunity to just get out, have some fun, get those steps in,” said Lina Dvorak, an intern with the Watershed Management Division of the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department. “And it really makes a difference.”
The park, which covers a little more than 186 acres, was cleaned up in about an hour and a half.
Some of the volunteers took out kayaks to clean up the lake and the shore, while others used grabbers to fill trash bags.
In all, the group collected about a dozen trash bags worth of garbage and firework debris.
