Volunteers from Lincoln Lighthouse dig deep in landscaping project

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Lighthouse After-School Program got their hands dirty Saturday afternoon while helping landscape the yard of a local household.
The kids involved in the program took part in mowing the lawn and planting a tree for a Lincoln couple with physical restrictions.
They even built a walkway from the driveway to the front door.
This program is part of Lincoln Lighthouse’s Trades and Industries Exposure Program.
The Lincoln Lighthouse After-School Program is an organization for middle and high school students.
It gives them a place to go for help on homework, to get a hot meal, and for opportunities to give back to the community.
One of the volunteers, Adrielle Trujillo, says that Lighthouse is a safe place for many kids in the community.
“It’s just a comfortable place to go to,” she said. “You can just hang out there if you need to take a nap after school or get your homework done.”
Pete Allman, the Co-founder of Lincoln Lighthouse, says experiences like this can teach kids a lot.
“We become a family,” Allman said. “I say that love is our biggest change agent because these kids are great and they just need some support and guidance. We do programs, meals and other fun stuff, and we keep them on the road to become successful young adults.”
