LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A wanted Lincoln man was arrested early Friday morning after an assault at a home in Norfolk, police say.

Around 6:10 a.m., officers responded to a report of an assault near North First Street and East Benjamin Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a woman who had serious injuries after being assaulted, according to police.

She had “extensive bleeding and required immediate medical attention,” police said.

The suspect, 43-year-old Ryan Schmidt, ran away before the officers arrived.

Shortly after, a deputy with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office found Schmidt in Madison and took him into custody.

He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, strangulation and second-degree false imprisonment.

Schmidt also had an active arrest warrant from Lancaster County.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Norfolk before being flown to receive care in Omaha, police said.  She has serious but not life-threatening injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
