Warm and unsettled for final week of summer
Each of the next couple of days, isolated thunderstorms will happen nearby. Monday most of us should miss the morning activity as a nearly stationary line of storms developed in northeast Nebraska.
Did you notice the humidity returning over the weekend? Expect more of a muggy feel to Monday with a decent southeast wind.
We’ll stay on the warmer side again this week, still looking at another few days nearing the 90s. But better rain chances increase by Wednesday and into the weekend.
A few isolated thunderstorms could happen near Lincoln and Omaha toward late Tuesday morning, but this will be one of the smaller chances to see rain this week.
More forcing arrives for stronger storms in western Nebraska, after about 6 p.m. Tuesday evening. This line will weaken but maintain some decent coverage into eastern Nebraska for Wednesday morning and afternoon.
Yet western Nebraska could see some scattered severe storms Tuesday evening from that initial wave. A Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk covers the entire Panhandle with a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk extending east to include Valentine and North Platte. Damaging wind will be the primary threat.
Again, those storms should arrive later Wednesday morning and afternoon in a weakened state. And that’s not the only good chance for some rain looking ahead.
Heading into the weekend, storms will be possible on Friday and throughout the weekend. We’ll keep an eye on the timing of a larger wave – for now, it looks to come by Sunday, producing perhaps rainfall throughout that day.
So take Sunday’s forecast with a grain of salt for now, but measurable rain will be very welcome. Some guidance is even leaning on rainfall potential over the next 7 days to exceed 1.5″ for eastern Nebraska.
