Early spring feel, warm enough for rain by this weekend
February started off by topping January’s warmest day already. Lincoln got to 65° yesterday and broke the old record of 64° set back in 1992.
We continue this warm weather rolling into the end of the work week and this weekend. But first, dense fog has been observed in areas well north and west of Lincoln.
A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for northeast Nebraska until 10 a.m. Friday. The rest of the state will deal with dense fog and low visibility until noon. The good news is the majority of the areas under this advisory are expected to remain above freezing.
Friday will start mostly sunny with increasing clouds especially into the afternoon. Temperatures will warm nicely into the upper 50s and low 60s across southeast Nebraska. Wind will be a bit stronger today with gusts around 25 mph possible.
With how warm we’ve been, Lincoln will be close to the 60s for a high again Friday. Rain chances will increase especially by the afternoon Saturday, with most rain staying to our west throughout the weekend. Temperatures will drop only slightly for Sunday.
Most of the rain from this system developing to our southwest will come for central and western Nebraska. Lincoln will be on the lower end of totals nearing about a tenth of an inch. Scattered showers will start late Friday and continue through Saturday, with an isolated rumble of thunder possible in southern Nebraska. It’ll be a wet weekend for those in south-central Nebraska as this rain eventually tapers off on Sunday.
Rain should come to an end for all by Sunday evening. Possibly up to a tenth of an inch of snow possible with this in the Panhandle, but we’ll all stay well warm enough for all to fall as rain.
