Warm, hazy, and comfortable on Tuesday
Upper-level winds are now blowing southward over the area, carrying wildfire smoke from Canada along with it. Fortunately, most of the smoke is well above ground level. While this will give the sky a hazy appearance on Tuesday, I don’t anticipate air quality concerns caused by smoke.
Skies will otherwise be mostly sunny. The humidity and wind speeds will remain low for another afternoon, and highs will likely reach the 80s. We’re forecasting a high near 84° in Lincoln. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if temperatures ended up a few degrees cooler depending on how much sunlight the smoke filters.
Meanwhile, spotty showers will be possible in southwest Nebraska. That is about where the rain stays for the most part. Showers will progress eastward in Kansas on Tuesday evening and overnight.
Almost all of these showers will remain south in Kansas. However, some versions of Stormcast suggest a spotty shower or two in south-central Nebraska, maybe venturing as far east as Hebron or Fairbury. This is a very small chance on Tuesday evening/night.
Temperatures will gradually warm through Thursday. Highs will be near 90° on Wednesday and in the low-90s on Thursday. While Lincoln stays dry through Thursday, storms will be approaching from the west on Thursday night.
The latest data depict a few upper-level disturbances lingering into Saturday. Lincoln’s best storm chance now appears to be both on Friday and Saturday. As of now, the forecast trends toward a drier direction for Father’s Day.
