Warm Monday, one of Lincoln’s last 90-degree days of 2023
While it’s probably felt like fall with recent weather, football, AppleJack Festival, you name it, the official start of the season comes later this week. Fall is just five days away, starting this Saturday.
With this week, we’ll be starting quite warm. There’s a great chance that we are not quite done with the 90s yet. And looking through history, it’s common that we get our last 90° day of the year through this time or early October. If it did happen on Monday and no more after that, it would be the earliest end to the 90s of the past 10 years.
With haze clearing out and sunshine with good mixing from the upper atmosphere, we’ll see highs reach the lower 90s in many spots on Monday. Most of the day will be dry for most, with quite the warmup through the morning, thanks to winds picking up, too.
Into Monday afternoon, wind gusts will be picking up out of the south anywhere from about 15-25 mph, with some isolated gusts around 30 mph possible.
Starting late Monday, there’s a small chance to see spotty showers and storms through Tuesday morning. Most will probably be dry throughout this period, but we can’t rule out some locations seeing some light rain through this time.
Several shortwaves will be moving through our area for small on and off chances to see rain through Thursday. But a larger amplitude wave brings the best chances Friday and into the weekend. Don’t be shocked if we see next to nothing most of the week, but a shot of rain for someone is there almost daily.
We’ll cool down throughout this week as well. Temperatures will back off by the end of the week, closer to normal as we get deeper into this more active period.
