Warm, muggy first then likely storms Thursday
Wednesday will be warm and muggy as a warm front lifts through the state. Count on another afternoon where many of us will flirt with 100-degree heat indices.
Most of us are eagerly awaiting change to the hot and muggy summer days of late. It’s coming!! A cold front will cut through Nebraska on Thursday, arriving in central and eastern Nebraska through the afternoon and evening hours.
The latest severe risk keeps eastern Nebraska in a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk because of better ingredients for severe storms staying mainly north and east into Iowa.
This cold front will spark storms as soon as the early afternoon, strengthening a bit by the late afternoon. Some hail and gusty winds are possible, while a tornado for northeast Nebraska also can’t be ruled out yet.
For most though, some much-needed, widespread rain will finally come. This is our best chance for rain over the next week and a half, too.
Then cooler air follows us into the end of the week and Labor Day weekend! We should be in for some wonderful days just in time for the holiday and extended weekend.
Labor Day itself (Monday) looks to be the cooler day with temperatures only warming into the upper 70s, feeling like fall – just as we begin meteorological fall.
