Warm weather to start holiday week
Temperatures in the 40°s, and even 50°, today did a number on snow laying over southeast Nebraska Friday. The remaining snow should be gone by the end of the weekend as above normal temperatures will be the rule rather than the exception.
It isn’t just the weekend that will be warm, temperatures will be 10° to 20° above normal Monday and Tuesday. That equates to high temperatures in the lower to middle 50°s. Enjoy it while you can because cold air is building over northwestern Canada and Alaska.
Temperatures Friday evening in northwestern Canada and interior Alaska have dropped well below zero. What you see in the image above is just the air temperature. Factor in the wind and wind chill values are -40°F to -55°F.
Long range computer models continue to suggest the Arctic air is unleashed to the central/eastern United States starting on Wednesday. The blast of cold air should reach southeast Nebraska Thursday when high temperatures may struggle to get out of the teens. Low temperatures will be in the single digits.
We’ll keep monitoring trends in the data over the next several days, so stay tuned!
