Warm, with small rain chances for a few days
For once, the weather is quiet to start the day statewide. Skies are mostly clear, winds are light, and temperatures are cool. This combination could lead to a few areas of patchy fog very early Thursday morning, especially in eastern Nebraska.
We’ll otherwise be mostly sunny through the day on Thursday. Temperatures will warm up very quickly. We’re forecasting high temperatures in the upper-80s to low-90s across southeast Nebraska.
By 5-6 p.m. Thursday, there could be a few storms developing in central Nebraska. Some versions of Stormcast are more optimistic than others about this potential, but it’s enough of a chance that we have to mention it.
These storms will operate on an isolated to scattered basis and will weaken through the evening as they attempt to move east. While Lincoln will get through the daytime hours completely dry, there is a very small chance to come across an isolated shower after sunset. It’s definitely not a guarantee.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of eastern Nebraska under a Level 1/5 risk for severe weather on Thursday. Parts of northeast Nebraska are included in a Level 2/5 risk.
Any evening storms that do develop could be strong. However, not everyone will see severe weather on Thursday evening, let alone storms.
A spotty storm cannot be completely ruled out on Friday, although that chance is very low also. Friday and Saturday should be mostly dry, with highs in the 90s. Our next best chance to see showers and storms appears to be on Sunday.
In fact, the Storm Prediction Center is specifically eyeballing eastern Nebraska for a severe weather potential on Sunday. This will be something to monitor in the coming days.
