Warmer for Tuesday; fall colors peaking in west Nebraska midway through October
We’re around the midway point through October – if you can believe that – and the most recent update to our fall color data shows colors have been peaking through the Nebraska Panhandle. As you look through much of central and eastern Nebraska, most of our colors have been delayed this year. We are only seeing low to moderate color on most of our trees.
Tuesday has started with temperatures in the mid 30s and patchy frost once more. But don’t worry, we’ll warm up going into the afternoon. You can plan on another day full of sun, with an increase in cloud cover overnight into Wednesday, keeping us warmer by morning.
Warmer air is creeping in from the west, as most of western Nebraska already saw the 70s yesterday. High pressure still in place, it’ll slide to the east a bit so our winds shift to be out of the south. Highs will be in the mid 70s once we get a breeze out of the south and southwest.
It may be a bit breezy the second half of Tuesday, but overnight we could see gusts around 30 mph. That, along with partly cloudy skies will keep lows in the 50s on Wednesday, rather than the chilly 30s.
Wednesday is our next “best” chance at any sort of rain in the future until next week. A low to our north will drag a weak front through our area Wednesday morning. It is at that time we could see some real spotty light showers, but the chance isn’t great.
The back side of the low passes in northeast Nebraska by the afternoon and evening, with a spotty chance to see rain up there, but it’s likely that won’t track through southeast Nebraska. Most will likely be dry through Wednesday.
Even though our averages at this time of year should be closer to the mid 60s, we’ll be in the 70s for the most part well into this weekend.
