Warmer Thursday across Nebraska; latest on Hurricane Helene

We’ve been tracking Hurricane Helene in the Gulf so far this morning, with landfall expected later tonight. Just after 6:30 a.m. Thursday, the National Hurricane Center says Helene is now of Category 2 strength with 100 mph maximum sustained winds.

Other than that, the forecast for the coming days will feel very “rinse and repeat.” Temperatures will remain around the lower 50s in the morning and around the middle 80s in the afternoon.

This will still be a few degrees warmer than average at this time of the year that sits at 76° for Lincoln.

Temperatures will be quite warm across Nebraska today, especially in looking at western Nebraska. High temperatures in the far Panhandle will be in the middle and upper 90s!

Friday will still feature a lot of sunshine with temperatures in the low to mid 80s during the afternoon. Morning lows will still be around the lower 50s.

Winds will remain on the lighter side throughout the weekend as well. Humidity stays on the lower end as well, keeping a comfortable airmass in place as high pressure continues to dominate the region.

A cold front will sweep through late in the day on Monday, bringing back cooler temperatures in the 70s to kick off the month of October.
