Warmer to start this week; series of fronts lead back to winter

After a weekend with a lot of cloud cover and cooler temperatures, we warm up through the middle of this next work week.

Temperatures are starting in the 20s, with wind chills in the teens so far Monday morning. Thanks to more sun and no snow cover on the ground, we should warm to the upper 40s and nearing 50° across southeast Nebraska.

Day Planner Pivot

Leading into Valentine’s Day, temperatures continue to bump into the middle 50s. But after, there’s more of a winter feel to the end of the week.

Week Ahead

A series of cold fronts will move through Nebraska from north to south, causing temperatures to drop both Thursday and Friday. The coldest day of the week appears to come on Friday as highs struggle to the 30s (more appropriate for this time of year).

We’re usually more confident in colder air arriving than precipitation type and timing this many days out, talking Thursday and Friday. There’s still a lot of uncertainty in the track of late Thursday into Friday’s front, that could bring some minor snow accumulations through Friday morning.

Jess Wxheadlines

Keep in mind that this event is several days out, but long-range models including this version of Stormcast show snow possible behind the second front Thursday night into Friday morning.

The cold and possible snow would not last long, though. Temperatures are slated to warm back to the 40s and 50s by the middle of that following week.
