Warming through a dry week; tracking Hurricane Milton
A colder morning unfolding so far today with temperatures falling to the 30s and lower 40s. Patchy areas of frost will be possible especially in low-lying areas.
Lincoln has dropped into the 30s today for the first time since April 24th.
A Frost Advisory is in place nearby for a few counties up to the northwest until 9 a.m. Monday morning.
Monday overall will continue to feel like the fall season we are in with highs in the upper 70s. Winds will be on the lighter side and we’re thankful for that after an active weekend of fires across southeast Nebraska.
Northwest flow aloft will bring more smoke aloft into Nebraska from wildfires largely in Wyoming and Idaho. This will cause another milky, white haze to sunny skies Monday and Tuesday at least.
No surface impacts are anticipated for eastern Nebraska, but higher concentrations look to make it to the surface in the Panhandle.
Later tonight, the sun will set for the first time before 7 p.m. and we won’t see another sunset after 7 p.m. until March.
Because of another dry week, temperatures will have no issue warming up to the upper 80s and lower 90s by the second half of the week. Another dry cold front will bring back fall temperatures by Sunday.
Most of the precipitation over the next week will be wrapped up in what has become Hurricane Milton over the weekend. As of 11 a.m. Monday morning, Milton became a Category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 160 mph.
This will be the second major hurricane to make landfall in Florida in less than two weeks.
There is still a lot of uncertainty on where this hurricane will make landfall in Florida and its intensity by Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, but the National Hurricane Center says, “there is an increasing risk of life-threatening storm surge and damaging winds for the west coast of Florida expected by Tuesday night or early Wednesday.”
Unfortunately, this means we continue to stay dry at home.
