WATCH: Crews demolish last part of Loup River Bridge in Columbus
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Crews with the Nebraska Department of Transportation demolished the remaining section of the Loup River Bridge in Columbus on Saturday.
A video posted to social media on Monday shows the last section of the bridge falling on the banks of the Loup River after a loud boom.
According to NDOT, the explosion was necessary as part of the Columbus South Bridges Project to make way for a new bridge.
The now-demolished bridge along U.S. Highway 81 and U.S. Highway 30 was originally built in 1933.
Earlier this month, crews demolished the first portion of the bridge.
