System brings heavy wind, severe thunderstorms to eastern Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska got its first dose of severe weather for the season Tuesday night as a line of storms pushed across the eastern portion of the state.

A portion of Lancaster County was under a tornado warning after a tornado was spotted southwest of Seward.

Lancaster County was under a severe thunderstorm warning until about 9 p.m., with the National Weather Service warning of wind gusts up to 70 mph.

Winds in Lincoln were still gusting at 50 mph at 10 p.m.

Hail larger than a nickel was reported in Crete about 7:30 p.m.

Chief meteorologist John Dissauer said there were 255 lightning strikes in Nebraska from about 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Lincoln received 0.3 of an inch of rain, and Wahoo got half an inch.
