WATCH: Man ‘violently’ attacked outside of downtown Lincoln bar; police seek assailant
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police need help searching for a man who assaulted somebody outside of a downtown Lincoln bar.
On Oct. 9, two men were arguing outside Sandy’s at 14th and O streets when one of them “violently” body-slammed the other into the ground, police said.
The assailant then hit the victim in the head with a skateboard, according to the Lincoln Police Department.
The victim made it home, where he started having a seizure. A roommate took him to a hospital, and he got six staples in his head.
One man who goes to the bars on O Street said he stopped another argument from turning violent last Saturday.
He said that fights happen too often downtown and that people “just need to relax because nothing is worth risking lives.”
A University of Nebraska-Lincoln student said a fight broke out right outside her apartment complex at Eighth and N streets just a few weeks ago.
“Just 30 people outside that got in a fight with these police officers,” Grace Henry said.
She said that, along with the fight on O Street, makes her worried about going downtown.
“It’s kind of scary,” Henry said. “Like, I don’t want to go out at night because I don’t want to be around that stuff. I don’t know. I don’t want to live in a place with that type of stuff.”
She doesn’t understand what could’ve led the assailant to hit the victim over the head with a skateboard.
“How do you even do that to somebody?” Henry asked.
Police shared photos and a video of the assault in hopes of making an arrest in the case.
LPD is also searching for a man who punched out a window at Sandy’s on Sept. 15.
Security video shows the man kicking the building before shattering the window.
He then ran away after being chased by the bar’s supervisor, police said.
Anyone with information on either case is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
