WATCH: Person uses grinder in ‘dangerous attempt’ to steal propane tanks in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police are searching for the person who tried to steal propane tanks from a hardware store in northeast Lincoln last week.

On Jan. 23, Ace Hardware near North 61st Street and Havelock Avenue reported an attempted theft at their store.

Police said cameras spotted a man using a cordless grinder trying to cut the lock off of a propane cage.

“They were unsuccessful in their very dangerous attempt, and left empty-handed,” police said.

Police are also searching for a person who stole a set of tires from a house near 76th and Holdrege streets on Jan. 23.

The tires had been delivered to the house but they were gone before the owner could retrieve them.

Security video captured a person driving by the house, seeing the tires and circling back around, police said.

The vehicle drove up onto the sidewalk, and a person got out to load the tires into the light-colored Chevy Malibu, according to police.

The tires were worth an estimated $2,000.

Anyone with information on either case is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
