WATCH: Woman lights mattress on fire in backyard of Lincoln home

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police are searching for a woman who ignited a blaze in a backyard in north Lincoln on Sunday.

Around 3 p.m., a person noticed smoke coming from the backyard of a home near 42nd Street and Madison Avenue.

A mattress in the backyard had been lit on fire, according to police.

Several bystanders extinguished the flames, preventing any major structural damage.

Security cameras in the area spotted the woman in the victim’s backyard and walking away after the mattress started smoking.

Police are also seeking a man who was trying to win big with a north Lincoln gas station theft last month.

On Sept. 24, the cashier at the Kwik Shop near 44th Street and Cornhusker Highway stepped out for a smoke break.

Police said a man sitting at the skill game machines went behind the counter and took a roll of lottery tickets.

The man was spotted going back to the skill game machine and putting the lottery tickets in a backpack.

Anyone with information on either case is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
