This is the moment Waverly native Ashton Lambie made history by shattering a world record.

He’s a member of Team USA’s cycling team and just last week he competed in the Pan-American Championships in Mexico.

Lambie competed in several events, but his record breaking ride happened during the individual pursuit, "I didn’t know right away, I finished then you start slowing down on the track, but then I rolled around another lap and my coach told me and my coach told me the time and I was just like wow that’s awesome."

Unlike most professional cyclers, Lambie didn’t pick up the sport until his teens, but that hasn’t slowed him down.

He spends more than twenty hours a week training, both on his bike and in the gym.

All that work paid off when Lambie crossed the finish line.

"I was the first guy to go under four ten."

The last person to break the individual pursuit record was Australian Jack Bobridge in 2011 with a time of 04:10, Lambie’s time 04:07.

"Other people have raced it and not gotten it is just like whoa its mind blowing. It’s crazy."

After setting the world record Lambie has his sights set on winning gold at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, but for now he’s going to enjoy the ride.
