Waverly school district announces unofficial recall election results

WAVERLY, Neb. (KLKN) – According to Lancaster County Election Commissioner, David Shively, the unofficial final results of the Waverly Recall have been calculated.
Parents in the Waverly district were unhappy with choices made by school board president, Andy Grosshans, in district 145, ward 4. Citing a lack of communication and parent representation in decision making throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last fall, petitioners went door-to-door in Ward 4 collecting the 88 signatures needed to force Grosshans to either resign or for the school board to call a special election.
Of registered voters within the district, the vote on Waverly School District 145, Ward IV received a turnout of 44.80 percent.
Voters decided on the following: Shall Andy Grosshans be removed from the office of the Board of Education of Lancaster County School District 55‐145 a/k/a Waverly School District 145?
17.35 percent or 115 voters voted in favor of the proposed statement, 82.65 percent or 548 people voted against the proposed recall.
