‘We want the sword back’: Lincoln Lutheran takes down Lincoln Christian in rivalry game
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Channel 8’s Game of the Week delivered Friday night.
Lincoln Lutheran avenged last season’s loss to Lincoln Christian, taking back the Sprit Sword in its 34-12 rivalry win.
After a couple of costly turnovers by the Warriors in the first quarter, the Crusaders got out to a 6-0 lead.
But after a late touchdown in the second half by new Lincoln Lutheran quarterback Henry Prokop, the Warriors went into the break with a 14-12 lead.
Lincoln Lutheran cruised in the second half, outscoring Lincoln Christian 20-0.
Prokop was a big part of that. He finished with four total touchdowns: three rushing and one passing.

But Prokop gave all the credit to his team.
“We all played great as a team,” he said. “Everyone played physical and gave it all they have.”
Before the game started, Lincoln Lutheran could be heard chanting the words: “We want the sword back.”
Head coach Sean Wieting said the Warriors got it back simply due to their effort.
“These guys have been working hard since November,” he said. “They know what it feels like to work hard, to love each other, and to stick with it and be disciplined.”
The Warriors start the season 1-0. It’s their first win at Lincoln Christian since 2021.
Wieting said this is just the beginning.
“Everybody wants to be 1-0, but at the end of the day, you’ve got to play eight more games,” he said. “If you do well on those, you might get more.”
Next up for Lincoln Lutheran: its home opener next Friday versus Auburn.
