Weather-related crash in Mead leaves two dead

MEAD, Neb. (KLKN) – Two people are dead after a vehicle crash near Mead Saturday morning, the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities said just before 8:45 a.m. deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash near Highway 77 and County Road ‘P’.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2007 Honda Accord was southbound on Highway 77 when it lost control due to ice and snow on the road and was struck on the passenger side in the northbound lane by a northbound 2019 Ford F150.

According to SCSO, the two occupants in the Honda Accord were pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants in the F150 were transported with serious injuries to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy.

Authorities have not identified the names of the deceased, at this time.

The Nebraska State Patrol, Mead Fire and Rescue, and Yutan Fire and Rescue all assisted.

Authorities said seatbelts were in use by occupants of both vehicles.
