Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot is over $1 billion

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Powerball jackpot for this Wednesday is at $1.09 billion.

The jackpot only gets to around a billion dollars one or two times a year, according to Nebraska Lottery Director Brian Rockey.

Last week, there were 360,000 Powerball purchases, which was 20% higher than the prior week.

Rockey said about one-third of all players will wait until the jackpot is between $500,000 to $700,000 before buying a ticket. The more the jackpot grows, the more likely non-players are to buy a ticket.

Here are some other facts the Nebraska Lottery shared about the Powerball:

  • There have been 39 drawings since January without a jackpot.
  • If won, this jackpot would be the fourth largest in Powerball history.
