Inmate stabbed at Nebraska State Penitentiary, weekend visits canceled

Saturday morning several separate altercations took place at the Nebraska State Penitentiary resulting in one inmate transported via ambulance to the hospital with a stab wound. The injury is serious, but his injuries are non-life-threatening. There are no reported injuries to staff members.
The facility is secure and currently in modified operations. All visits have been canceled for the remainder of Saturday and Sunday.
Inmates initially refused to return to two living units, but eventually complied with staff directives. Unaffected units will return to normal operations as soon as possible. At least two housing units will remain on modified operations through the weekend.
The Corrections Emergency Response Team is onsite and the Nebraska State Patrol has been notified. The emergency contact of the injured inmate has been notified.
