The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services have confirmed the death happened in May from the state’s North Central Health Department.

That department covers Antelope, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Holt, Keya Paho, Knox, Pierce and Rock counties.

Officials aren’t giving out her identity, to protect her privacy, but would say she’s between 25 and 50 years old and had underlying medical issues.

She is the first case of West Nile in Nebraska this year.

Officials say the woman began experiencing West Nile symptoms very early, outside of the usual West Nile season.
