Wet start to this week as rain continues Monday
Rain continues for the rest of Monday morning into the afternoon, with chances tapering off by the evening – a wet start to the work week!
More smoke from Canadian fires is actively moving in from the north, so we may see some haze at times even once the rain comes to an end.
The best forcing for these showers will be across southeast Nebraska, especially south of I-80. Some showers will linger south and east of Lincoln into early Monday night before we clear out and cool down into Tuesday morning.
Total rainfall after 7 a.m. Monday could add up to another quarter to half an inch for many. Highest totals will be where the rain lingers the longest toward the Missouri River.
There will be several days with showers and isolated thunderstorms throughout the rest of the week. Severe weather chances remain minimal at this time. Tuesday should be one of the driest days with temperatures bouncing back to the upper 70s.
All of this speaks to the fact that May is our wettest month of the year in Lincoln. On average, we see close to 5 inches of rainfall. The second wettest month is June, followed by August.
It’ll be a day to keep the umbrella handy, a hooded jacket or whatever you may use to keep you dry on a rainy day like today.
