What to know before betting on sports in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Starting on Thursday, bettors will be able to place sports wagers at the WarHorse Casino in Lincoln.

According to state law, gamblers must place wagers on-site. You can do so at the sportsbook window or one of 10 kiosks.

The law also excludes a number of events, including in-state college home games.

“You’re not going to be able to wager on the Nebraska football team for instance or college athletics home games,'” said Josh Planos with the Better Business Bureau. “You will be able to wager on professional sports, and you will have no shortage of options to bet on things.”

With this new gambling option in the state, the BBB is also reminding people how to have fun and play responsibly.

It says knowing when to stop and only gambling with money you can afford to lose is critical.

Planos said you should also avoid gambling if you are emotionally distressed.

He said with this new step in state gambling, people should also watch out for gambling scams.

“You’re going to see a lot of unverified reports of folks who might be able to provide you with winning bets or access to sportsbooks that would provide better rates,” Planos said.

The BBB reminds people to research teams and players before betting on sports.
