Wicked wind chills early; snow possible Thursday
We do have an ongoing Wind Chill Warning that expires at noon Tuesday.
For Tuesday morning, wind chills as low as 30 to 35 below are possible across southeast Nebraska, especially in the hours just before and after the sun coming up.
Winds will be out of the southwest and breezy for this second day of the workweek.
Gusts around 15 to 20 mph will be possible, but the wind should help transport some slightly warmer air than we’ve been used to by the afternoon, with plenty of sunshine.
Temperatures should be above zero again by the second half of Tuesday, with highs in the upper single digits to around 10.
We warm even more on Wednesday, with highs closer to the low 20s but still far below averages for this time of year.
Partly sunny on Wednesday with a few flurries here and there possible.
But something we’ll need to keep an eye on is the potential for more light snow, and possibly blowing snow, by Thursday and Thursday night.
Widespread snow looks to ride in across the state, especially by the afternoon.
Wind gusts around 25 to 35 mph out of the northwest into Thursday night are expected and could create low visibility and patchy areas of blowing/drifting snow once more.
Most of Nebraska has a decent chance of about an inch from this.
Amounts do not look to be greater than 3 inches at this time anywhere, with better chances for snow through central and northwest Nebraska.
Then behind the chance for snow, bitter cold returns to close out this week.
Wind chills in the ballpark of 25 to 35 below are possible Friday morning, then 30 to 40 below is possible Saturday morning.
An important reminder: We are making progress toward spring. Only 63 days away from today! There also are warmer temperatures in the forecast as soon as next week.
