Wildfire near North Platte prompts evacuation order

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Fire crews are battling a large wildland fire in western Nebraska.

The fire is north of Maxwell, according to the Nebraska State Patrol. Maxwell is just east of North Platte.

Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, the North Platte Police Department said people from North Maxwell Road to Highway 83 should evacuate. That order was lifted around 5:40 p.m.

A new evacuation order was issued around 6:20 p.m. after the fire flared up again, this time for residents north of Graybull Golf Course to Neiden Road and to the east.

“Fire danger remains high for most of the state this week,” the Nebraska State Patrol said on Facebook.

Troopers are blocking roadways, and the state patrol is monitoring the fire from the air.
