LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Firefighters are working to put out two separate wildfires near Adams and Beatrice.

A person driving on U.S. Highway 136 near Beatrice told Channel 8 that law enforcement is diverting traffic as crews work to put out a large wildfire.

The highway is closed from South 21st Street to South 66 Road due to the fire, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

There is a second wildfire south of Firth.

A firefighter told a Channel 8 reporter that residents of a nursing home in Adams were evacuated to a school.

That was the only known evacuation due to the fires.

The firefighter said area farmers were asked to disc their fields to help stop the spread of the blaze.

There is no word yet on what started the fires.

This is an ongoing story. Stick with Channel 8 for the latest.
