Wind bringing back chills on Friday
Friday morning started with a couple hundredths of an inch (tenth if you were lucky) with that band of light showers moving through early. Winds have already been strong, but they will be at their strongest through the mid-morning hours. That could produce a bit of a wind chill for the first time in a while!
Wind gusts up to 45 mph can be expected through this morning, and still 30-35 mph throughout Friday afternoon.
Temperatures hovering around the 50s this morning are not going to warm up all that much. Highs for most of us are only in the middle and upper 50s. Much colder afternoon than the 90s we started out with this week! Thanks, Nebraska!
The cold air surge will really be felt by Saturday morning. Winds will calm throughout the evening, leaving us with a very calm and clear night. Temperatures will plummet into the 20s and 30s to start the weekend.
With temperatures at or below freezing expected, a Freeze Warning has been issued for almost all of Nebraska for Saturday morning. Today is the day to make preparations with plants and plumbing, as our first freeze is coming.
We are not expected to warm up all that much into mid-October, either. Temperature trends will be up and down through next week, with many days in the 60s and 70s.
There’s a chance to see some showers and thunderstorms next Thursday, but more details on that to come as we get closer.
