Wind machine cranks up over next 48 hours
A cold front passed through southeast Nebraska Tuesday afternoon. Behind the front, winds have shifted out of the northwest and cooler air is settling in. High temperatures will drop Wednesday and again Thursday but the thing you may notice the most is the wind.
Low pressure over Minnesota Tuesday evening will slowly move east over the next 48 hours. On the backside of the low, winds will increase in the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Iowa. Wind gusts reached 60+ mph in South Dakota Tuesday afternoon.
Winds will be out of the west/northwest Wednesday in southeast Nebraska. Gusts will climb to 45 mph – with possibly higher gusts in central Nebraska. High-resolution computer models are suggesting winds could gust even higher Thursday, perhaps reaching 50+ mph.
As mentioned earlier, temperatures will be cooler Wednesday and Thursday. Highs will likely only reach the lower 50°s Wednesday and many areas will struggle to reach 50° Thursday.
Both days will also bring a chance for light scattered showers as spokes of energy circulate around the area of low pressure. The best chance for these will be during the afternoons when the atmosphere is able to heat.
