Winding down the rest of the week
Strong storms Monday prompted numerous severe storm warnings – both thunderstorm and tornado warnings. Bigger hail reports came from Beaver City (1.3″) and Papillion (1.5″).
Damaging wind gusts managed to tip a camper near Cowles, cause damage to an outbuilding near Wymore and down power lines with damage to a residence near Pickrell.
Lincoln dodged most of it, while storms strengthened into the night and a couple of tornado reports came just east of Omaha into Iowa.
With all the rain we’ve seen lately in Lincoln, we’re officially in the top 10 wettest starts to May – now almost a full week in.
Looking forward to a quiet weather day for all of us? We are, too. Tuesday will be the start of our weather pattern attempting to wind down, with more sun and highs in the low to mid 70s.
Across Nebraska, most of us will find ourselves nearing the low to mid 70s for a high on Tuesday. Cooler temperatures will be felt in the Panhandle throughout the day.
The center of the low pressure system that sparked severe weather yesterday will be just to our north – it may spark a few very light showers in northern Nebraska with the heating of the day today. Other than that, another passing system to the southeast will try to bring more light rain across southeast Nebraska closer to midnight.
Wednesday’s storms should dodge us well to the north and east, but we may be in for an isolated rumble of thunder from then into Thursday.
