“Wind”sday features strong gusts across Nebraska; another warm one
The fog is cleared from much of the area thanks to added cloud cover and winds picking up so far this morning. It’s also unseasonably warm! Temperatures haven’t dropped below the middle 40s so far, so Lincoln will likely set a new record warm low temperature for February 7th.
The wind is something we’ve done without for a while now. That changes today. Sustained winds around 15-25 mph are expected all day.
Gusts will be that much higher. South winds could gust as high as 45 mph through much of the late afternoon and night on Wednesday.
That’ll prompt another warm up with highs in the upper 50s to around 60° for again, *checks calendar* early February! Hold onto those hats!
Here’s what Stormcast shows winds will look like across Nebraska, hour-by-hour into Thursday.
What’s driving these stronger winds? A strong low is developing in Colorado that will lift north on Wednesday, causing bigger pressure changes over a smaller distance. That is what’s driving strong southern winds through our area being on the eastern side as this all unfolds.
Because of that system, there will be a bit of forcing that may cause some isolated storms by Wednesday evening in western Nebraska. But this will happen around sunset, so they won’t have much to go off of as it is again, February.
As that cold front tracks through eastern Nebraska by Thursday, we may see a spotty shower here and there but not much.
