Windstream serving Lincoln customers ‘as usual’ during restructuring

Windstream service will continue as usual as the company begins a restructuring process, a company spokesman said.
The company voluntarily filed petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in February. The move followed a $310 million decision against the company by a judge, according to reports by CNN.
The filing allows the company to continue operating as normal while working out its financial situation. The company’s website says it has “sufficient liquidity to run our business throughout the court-supervised process.”
Many Lincoln customers received a notice in the mail about the filing this week. Windstream provides service to a significant portion of Lincoln residents, and that service should remain unaffected a company spokesman said.
“We are operationally strong and are serving our customers as usual during this process,” David Avery, Windstream’s Vice-President of Corporate Affairs, told Channel 8 Eyewitness News in a statement. “We are confident upon completion of this process, we will be even better positioned to invest in our business and compete for the long term.”
The company’s President and CEO, Tony Thomas, further addressed the decision in a statement.
“Following a comprehensive review of our options, including an appeal, the Board of Directors and management team determined that filing for voluntary Chapter 11 protection is a necessary step to address the financial impact of Judge Furman’s decision and the impact it would have on consumers and businesses across the states in which we operate,” Thomas said. “Taking this proactive step will ensure that Windstream has access to the capital and resources we need to continue building on Windstream’s strong operational momentum while we engage in constructive discussions with our creditors regarding the terms of a consensual plan of reorganization. We acted decisively to secure the long-term financial stability of Windstream, and we are confident that, upon completion of the reorganization process, we will be even better positioned to invest in our business, expand our speed and capabilities for our customers and compete for the long term.”
