Wind gusts up to 55 miles per hour Wednesday afternoon created a difficult fight for homeowners and firefighters as a grass fire sparked near southwest 29th and Bennet road.

“We’ve got the red building down there and its no where close to us but I’m sure worried about the neighbors up on the corner here,” said Woody Woodruff, the owner of the field that was burned.

The fire spreading so quick, neighbors were using garden hoses to try and slow the flames.

The family just across the road from the fire told Channel 8, they were so worried the flames would spread to their house…they packed an overnight bag, getting ready for the worst.

Thankfully, they were able to confine the fire to the cornfield, about half of it ended up scorched.

A similar scene just north of Denton. A there hitting some pasture and grassland area. Fire crews making sure every ember was put out.

Everyone was thankful both fires didn’t effect any buildings or cause any injury.

Officials are still working to determine the cause of both fires.
