Winner-take-all bill advances to floor debate in Nebraska Legislature

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A winner-take-all bill in the Nebraska Legislature is moving onto the debate round, Gov. Jim Pillen announced Monday.
Legislative Bill 3, introduced by State Sen. Loren Lippincott of Central City, would move Nebraska to a winner-take-all system in the Electoral College.
Nebraska is one of only two states that divides its electoral votes based on congressional districts during the presidential election.
Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, led by State Sen. Rita Sanders of Bellevue, advanced the bill to the floor for debate.
In a statement, Pillen said the winner-take-all system would “strengthen our voice in presidential elections.
“This is great news for Nebraska and I’m grateful to Chair Rita Sanders and the great senators who voted to advance WTA for their leadership,” he said.
