Winter storm possible early next week
There is a chance for light snow on Saturday, our next best chance for accumulating snow will be Sunday night through early Tuesday morning. As the winter storm approaches those with travel plans early next week should keep a close eye on the forecasts and weather updates.
A Winter Storm Watch is in place from Sunday evening until 6:00am Tuesday for much of eastern Nebraska. Travel could be impacted most where the watch is in place due to higher amounts of snow and stronger winds. The channel 8 Storm Alert Team is continuing to monitor and provide updates as the winter storm arrives.
There is a small chance for light snow and flurries on Saturday, the chance is very hit or miss, with many left with mostly cloudy skies throughout the day.
Saturday’s wave of snow will bring very little accumulation across the state, totals will be less than a half inch for about everyone. The best chance for higher accumulation in the SE will be throughout Monday.
Starting late Sunday night a winter storm moves through Nebraska bringing a chance for snow all the way into early Tuesday.
It is still very early to determine exactly how much snow and where, however various models have much of SE Nebraska seeing the higher amounts of snow though Tuesday morning. Expect travel impacts on both Monday and Tuesday to come from this winter storm.
In addition to the higher amounts of snow in the SE, winds gusting from 35-40 mph will be possible early Tuesday, as the winter storm starts to wrap up. Blowing snow will be possible in areas with more snow and higher winds.
