As of this morning, models have been trending upward on total snowfall amounts. The probabilities of at least 4″ of snow from the Weather Prediction Center are great over a wide area of eastern and southern Nebraska.

Because this is expected to be a heavy, wet snow on Monday into Tuesday, we need to factor in compaction. Slight adjustments have been made to the forecast. Below is what we’re expecting for snow totals through Tuesday morning.

Jb Snow Map

Southeast Nebraska may see a slight rain/snow wintry mix start up first Monday morning before the snow starts. Snow here is not expected to start until mid-morning, almost after the morning commute. Snowfall rates will pick up the rest of the morning from there into the afternoon and evening.

The highest impacts will be to the afternoon and evening commutes on Monday, with areas of drifting and blowing snow creating near-blizzard conditions Monday night into Tuesday. Wind gusts around 35-40 mph start first in western Nebraska before shifting to the east especially by early Tuesday.

The Winter Storm Severity Index has moderate impacts over eastern and southern Nebraska for Monday because of the snow amounts we are expecting. The “moderate” category is for areas that will experience disruptions to daily life and hazardous driving conditions.

This forecast is subject to be tweaked heading into Monday, so stay with the Storm Alert Team on-air and online (web/social media) for the latest information.
