Wintry mix possible this weekend
Below normal temperatures and a snow/rain mix are possible for much of the state from Saturday into Sunday afternoon. We dry up and slightly warm up heading into the start of next week.
A Freeze Warning is in place from 10:00 pm Friday – 10:00 am Saturday. Cover any plants with a blanket and bring any house plants indoors.
Overnight Friday into Saturday morning, temperatures will drop into 20s and lower 30s. An overall chilly start to a chilly weekend.
Saturday’s highs look to stay in the 30s and low 40s. Much of the day will be chilly, with possible chances for a wintry mix throughout the afternoon and evening.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in place form 1:00 am Saturday through 7:00 am and 10:am in NE counties on Sunday, for much of western and central Nebraska, some NE counties have been included in the advisory.
As the winter weather makes its way through west and central Nebraska first, SE parts of the state will start the first half of the day partly cloudy. As the afternoon arrives, a chance for a rain/snow mix does too.
As of Friday evening, various models show the wintry mix continuing into the evening hours on Saturday. Better chances for snow SE look to occur Sunday morning.
Various models forecast anywhere from a trace to possibly 2″ south of the I-80. North of the I-80 can expect 4-6″, more towards western and central counties, all surrounding areas look to see 2-4″ of snow.
If you have plans to go to the afternoon Husker game, you could run into a snow/rain mix during the game. Wearing layers and a jacket look ideal as temperatures will warm no more than 38 degrees. It might be time to take any hats, scarfs and gloves out of storage for this game.
