Witnesses wanted after Nebraska woman drowns in the Missouri River

Friends and family say goodbye to Emma Olsen one last time at funeral

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Authorities are hoping to learn more about what led to the death of a Nebraska woman, after a boat sank on the Missouri River.

Emma Olsen, 20, drowned after a 30-foot red and white Scarab went under on May 29.

Her body wasn’t recovered until several days later on June 2.

Now the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is asking anyone who saw the boat before it sank over Memorial Day weekend to reach out.

This happened along the stretch that includes Harrison and Monona Counties in Iowa and Burt and Washington Counties in Nebraska.

So far there’s no word on if alcohol played a role or how the boat, with an Oklahoma registration, began taking on water.

Friends and family said goodbye to Olsen on Thursday morning at a funeral at the StoneBridge Christian Church in Omaha.

Instead of flowers or cards, the family is asking people to donate to the Nebraska Humane Society in her honor.
