Woman and child rescued from Nebraska river
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two people were rescued Thursday after being stranded in a Nebraska river.
First responders were dispatched at 5:30 p.m. to the Middle Loup River bridge just south of St. Paul for a water rescue. St. Paul is about 20 miles north of Grand Island.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found two swimmers under the bridge.
Officials said St. Paul police officers and Howard County deputies threw out rescue device.
A woman grabbed on, and she was pulled to safety.
Two St. Paul police officers then jumped into the river to rescue a boy, according to officials.
Police said after a brief struggle in the current, the officers were able to pull the child to the shore.
One officer was taken to the Howard County Medical Center for precautionary reasons and has since been released.
