Woman convicted in crash that killed pedestrian in west Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A woman was found guilty Wednesday in a deadly crash in Lincoln.
Vanessa Williams, 31, of Lincoln pleaded no contest to motor vehicle homicide with reckless or willful reckless driving and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Court documents say she was under the influence of multiple drugs on July 20, when she hit and killed 62-year-old John Gross.

Williams was driving west on West O Street near Sun Valley Boulevard and crossed the median into the eastbound lanes, according to an arrest affidavit.
Gross was sitting in the median leading against a traffic sign when he was hit, the Lincoln Police Department said.
He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said officers found a pipe with burnt marijuana residue in the driver’s door of Williams’ car.
Court documents say she was also in possession of methamphetamine and psilocybin.
Investigators determined that she was “under the influence of Narcotics, Stimulants, and Depressants,” according to the affidavit.
Williams is scheduled to be sentenced on June 30.
