Woman convicted of helping man pose as student at two Lincoln high schools

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln woman was found guilty Monday of helping a grown man enroll in high school, where he assaulted female students.

Angela Navarro, 23, pleaded no contest to misdemeanor criminal impersonation and misdemeanor child abuse. The criminal impersonation charge was reduced from a felony under a plea deal.

In the 2022-23 school year, then-26-year-old Zachary Scheich enrolled in high school classes at Lincoln Public Schools, according to the district.

Navarro, who is four years younger than Scheich, helped by pretending to be his mother.

Scheich went by a fake name, Zak Hess, and provided a fraudulent birth certificate and immunization records, police said.

He attended Northwest High School, then transferred to Southeast High School.

During that time, police said he committed multiple sex crimes against female students.
