Woman dead, two injured after crash on Highway 30 near Grand Island

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A woman is dead after a crash with a semitrailer Thursday on Highway 30 just outside of Grand Island.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 30 and Capital Avenue.

A pickup truck, driven by a 17-year-old girl, turned onto Highway 30 when it was struck by an eastbound semi.

The girl and a passenger, 81-year-old Roberta Tipton, were taken to a Grand Island hospital.  Tipton was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the semi, a 71-year-old Marquette man, was also injured and taken to a hospital.  The sheriff’s office said he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

An investigation is ongoing.
