LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Police have identified the woman found dead in Beal Slough on Wednesday as Marilyn McArthur, 83.

She had dementia, according to a Facebook post from Union College, which said she was a “legendary” professor there.

The college said she taught there for 23 years, rising to chair of the Division of Nursing in 1990.

The current leader of the nursing program, Elysia Ockenga, said in the post that when she thinks of Union College, she thinks of McArthur.

“I was in awe of her, and the nursing students and faculty couldn’t have been in better hands,” Ockenga said.

On Wednesday, McArthur’s husband reported her missing from their southwest Lincoln home.

Two hours later, her body was found nearby in Beal Slough, near to where it empties into Salt Creek.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Oct. 8 at College View Church.
