Lincoln woman critically injured in crash; LPD says she was riding down West O in wheelchair
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – For the second time this week in Lincoln, a pedestrian has been injured in a hit-and-run crash.
The Lincoln Police Department says a woman in a wheelchair was hit by a vehicle around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Officials said the 43-year-old was going east on West O Street in a wheelchair.
She was hit near Southwest 27th Street. Authorities said that area is not as well-lit as other stretches of O Street.
After the crash, the vehicle that hit her drove off, according to police.
The woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and the eastbound lanes were shut down until about 1 a.m.
Police are looking for a white vehicle, based on debris found at the scene.
Capt. Todd Kocian said it can be difficult to track down hit-and-run vehicles, but it’s not impossible.
“Sometimes depending on the parts and pieces that are located, you can narrow your scope of search down,” he said.
Kocian said if investigators can find a part number, it can lead them to the make and model through a “process of elimination.”
After the crash, investigators spoke with one witness, but they’re still looking for video from the area.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police at 402-441-6000.
This is the second pedestrian hit-and-run this week and the fourth time in two weeks that a pedestrian has been hit.
Three of those were on West O, and one was earlier this week at 14th Street and Cushman Drive.
Police said that crash happened when 25-year-old Lamika Livingston struck a 37-year-old and drove off.
She turned herself in later that day and was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an injury accident.
Officials said in all of these cases, pedestrians were not using a crosswalk.
